What is CrossFit?

CrossFit is a strength and conditioning workout made up of different functional movements, performed at a high intensity. Workouts, often referred to as “WODS”, generally include different types of equipment - cardio machines (rowers, ski ergs, bikes), kettlebells, dumbbells, barbells, skipping ropes and more.

A key benefit of CrossFit is that workouts are different every day and can be adapted to anybody (age / level of fitness) by modifying the movements. This is referred to as “scaling”.

How long do CrossFit classes run for?

CrossFit classes will generally run for one hour, with the session broken down into four different components:

  1. A warm-up, including dynamic stretches - 10-15 mins

  2. Strength or skill progression - 20-25 mins

  3. Workout of the day AKA “WOD” - 10-20 mins

  4. Cooldown stretch session - 5-10 mins

No matter what you've heard before, CrossFit provides variety everyday, gives you new goals to achieve and creates a whole lot of fun!

  5. The brand initially started out as “Cross-Fit” but was registered as a proper company titled “CrossFit” in 2000.
